Crystal Palace on Saturday to secure fourth place and a chance to play European football next season was largely due to David De Gea “s heroics at Selhurst Park. The Spaniard goalkeeper made two superb saves to keep United in the game.
The Red Devils needed to win
against Crystal Palace after losing three straight games because Liverpool FC
were four points behind them and another defeat would have given Liverpool FC ,
a serious chance of beating MUFC to the final Champions League spot.
Ironically, the game had
parallels with the last time that Manchester United FC first team players had
to play Crystal Palace with a major European Cup ambition in mind. It happened
in 1991 when the Red Devils had to play Crystal Palace before playing CF
Barcelona in the European Cup Winners Cup Final at Rotterdam, which they won.
David De Gea has been very astounding between the
posts for the Red Devils this season, despite a difficult first season.
However, he is yet to sign a new deal offered by Manchester United FC, amidst
reports of interest from CF Real Madrid. Goals from Juan Mata and Felliani
helped United to secure the 3 points with Ashley Young causing problems at the
left wing for Crystal Palace defenders. It was Young’s cross that Felliani
headed in, that gave United the full 3 points.
